Service-Area Pages: How I Structure Them for Local SEO
Service-area pages are how a local business shows up for 'near me' queries across multiple cities. Here is the pattern I use on every build.
Read articleCustom-coded, fast-loading websites that rank on Google and convert visitors into calls; built for service businesses across Chicagoland.
Pinned: Chicago and the surrounding communities I work with most. The dashed ring is the standard remote-build coverage radius, in practice, the same site I would build for a Chicago business is the same site I build for clients across the U.S. and Canada.
Chicagoland is one of the largest metro areas in the country and one of the most demanding service business markets. Brutal winters mean constant demand for furnace repair and snow removal. Aging housing stock across the city and suburbs creates steady work for plumbers, electricians, and general contractors. And summer storms bring roofing and gutter work.
Chicago homeowners expect professionalism. A polished, credible website is a minimum bar in this market; not a differentiator. What separates winning contractors from the rest is a combination of strong reviews, specific service area pages, and a site that actually ranks on Google for the searches that matter.
When a homeowner in Chicagoland searches for "plumber near me" or "HVAC repair Chicago" on Google, they click one of the first three results, and they call the first business that looks credible. Your website is that first impression. It earns the call or loses it.
Every site I build for a Chicago-area business is custom-coded from scratch. No WordPress, no AI templates, no page builders. The result is a site that loads in under a second, scores 95–100 on Google PageSpeed, and is structured specifically to rank for local service searches in Chicagoland.
Chicagoland's suburbs are essentially independent markets. A service business based in Naperville competes differently than one based in Chicago proper. Suburb-specific service area pages are essential for capturing suburban search traffic.
I build your site with Chicago-specific SEO from day one, not bolted on after. Your service pages use the phrases your customers actually search for, your NAP (name, address, phone) information is consistent, and your site is structured the way Google expects for local service businesses.
I am Jon. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, and I work with service businesses across the U.S. and Canada entirely remotely. No awkward in-person meetings, no travel charges, no geographic limitations. Most sites are live within 2–3 weeks of my first call. The same person who picks up your call is the one writing your code.
Chicago's housing stock is the oldest of any major American city outside the Northeast, and the math of that runs through every trade. Pre-war brick two-flats and bungalows still carry knob-and-tube wiring, cast-iron drains, and lead service lines that the city is currently in the middle of a 20-year replacement program for. North Shore suburbs (Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka) skew older and high-income; the post-1990 ring (Naperville, Schaumburg, Aurora) is suburban tract work where 25-year-old roofs and original HVAC are now failing in volume. Polar-vortex events drive frozen-pipe and furnace-emergency search to its annual peak in January, and the spring-storm wave (April through June) brings hail and straight-line wind across the western suburbs. The City of Chicago plumbing license is jurisdiction-specific; suburban Cook County operates differently, and homeowners notice the distinction.
